Follow-up: Suspect Charged After Deadly Vancouver Festival Attack

Vancouver, Canada – A 30-year-old man, Kai-Ji Adam Lo, has been charged with eight counts of second-degree murder after a car rammed into a crowd during Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Festival on Saturday night, leaving 11 people dead and dozens injured.
Police confirmed that Lo, a city resident, was known to authorities for past mental health issues but stressed that this incident is not being treated as terrorism. Officials expect more charges as the identification of victims continues.

The attack devastated Vancouver’s tight-knit Filipino community, with festival-goers describing scenes of panic and heartbreak. Victims ranged in age from 5 to 65.
Prime Minister Mark Carney visited the site Sunday evening, joining grieving families and laying flowers. Other political leaders expressed condolences and pledged support for the affected families.
Authorities admitted there were no major barriers where the crash occurred, raising concerns about public event security. Police Chief Steve Rai called it “the darkest day in the city’s history” and warned that the death toll may rise.

The Filipino-Canadian community, known for its vibrant celebrations, is mourning deeply — with many saying this tragedy will be felt for years to come.
